For Norwood resident Billy Boyd, this June’s Friday the 13th was a lucky day. Boyd set a national speed record in his ’69 Camaro at a race meet in Denver.
After more than a decade of being owned by corporations based in the eastern U.S., the Norwood Post was bought last week by Randy Miller, a veteran newspaperman from Boulder.
Bill Blake and Oak Smith are running in the Democratic primary Aug. 12 in the District 3 County Commissioner race. The winner will face incumbent Art Goodtimes, a member of the Green Party. The last day to register for the primary is July 14.
Dan Dillon was perhaps the town’s most charming man, beloved by everyone in Norwood, from the young children who listened to him telling stories at the local child care center to the senior citizens in the group he directed.
Norwood’s Uncompahgre Medical Center recently spent $60,000 in grant money to acquire new lab equipment, which will allow practitioners to discern the results of certain blood tests in as few as 30 minutes.
Buying or renting a home in the Telluride region is too expensive for much of the work force, and there is a deficit of affordable housing. But in Norwood, even the free market property is still affordable.
SPINNING WHEELS — Riders in the 2008 Bicycle Tour of Colorado descended on Naturita, Colorado last week. More than 2,000 cyclists took over most of the town’s hotels and all of the available grassy areas with their tents.
Thanks to last year’s mil levy increase, Norwood Public Schools will have a little more money to spend on school programs, facilities and teacher salaries in 2008-09. And thanks to the inflating fuel prices and the struggling economy, the schools will also have to spend more money on transportation, utilities and lunches.
